On Monday 25th September, the Music Department at Dame Alice Owen's School were priviliaged to host HM Royal Marines Band at the Edward Guinness Hall. It was a wonderful day for our music students who were treated to a series of workshops and performance tuition culminating in a combined showcase performance alongside this group of talented musicians.
Lance Corporal Harry Page, a DAOS alumnus, and his brother Arthur Page, current DAOS teacher and alumnus, organised this brilliant opportunity and it was a huge success.
Colour Sergeant Andy Hall offered advice and direction on a wealth of areas including:
* Breathing, to all start together and posture
* Playing the rests - silence being just as important
* How to play dynamics and the importance of more air to play quietly and maintain the quality of sound
All of the students involved in the Second Band and the Concert Band were excellent but there were a few notable performances from a fantastic horn solo in Band of Brothers to a traditional drum solo in the Final Countdown.
It was an enlightening and exciting experience for all involved!
