It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Dr James Flint on Valentine's Day this year, after a long battle with cancer.
James was a pupil at Owen's from 1997 - 2004. He went on to specialise in International Relations, reading his BSc at the University of Plymouth and his MSc at University College London. James was awarded his PhD from the University of Plymouth, winning the 2021 University of Trento's Brett William Campbell Thesis Award for his thesis, Europeanisation of foreign aid: Managing post-9/11 fragile, conflict-affected states. He latterly worked as an associate lecturer at the University, teaching across politics, international relations, and sociology.
Serving for 10 years as an Army Reservist, James was a veteran of the war in Afghanistan – an experience he was proud of, and which inspired his PhD thesis.
He leaves his loving wife, Dr Nicola Flint, his brother Grahame (also a pupil of the school 1994 - 2001), his sister Michelle, his mother Frances, and many loyal friends.
James was a passionate supporter of Brain Tumour Research and any donations made in his name will be greatly appreciated by his family.
Rest in peace, dear James.
