Director of Engineering, Meta
1989
After Owen's I studied philosophy for a year at Bristol University, realised it wasn't my thing (and that I missed London too much) and ended up back in London at the City of London Polytechnic studying Computer Science and Psychology. After graduating in 1993 I worked briefly for Reuters and then landed my first gig in the games industry when Sega first offered to sponsor me to study for a Master Degree in Computer Graphics, and then replaced that offer with a full time job...
I moved to the States in 1996 to continue working in games, and through 2017 I was at Activision, running technology at Neversoft (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Guitar Hero) and Infinity Ward (Call of Duty). In 2017 I left gaming and joined a VR startup - Within - and led technology on a health and fitness platform called Supernatural. Within was acquired by Meta in 2023.
I've always loved learning - which is a good thing since technology changes so quickly. I think that love comes in large part from my time at Owen's and the fantastic faculty.
There's so many! The bittersweet feelings the summer of 1989 as we prepared to leave. Woodwork (and trading computer games) with Mr Dackus. Procuring rather late at night (through means that shall never be revealed) a very large and very fresh Christmas tree for the 6th form common room :)
